On Monday evening, the Oklahoma City Thunder swept their way into the Western Conference Finals with a tight road win over the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4 of their second round series. While Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had his first big scoring night of the series in this one, Ajay Mitchell once again impressed, scoring 28 points on a hyper-efficient 12-19 from the field in the win.

On Tuesday, Chandler Parsons took to FanDuel’s “Run It Back” show to hit Mitchell with some epic praise amid his breakout season.
“I think he’s better than 10 starting point guards… I’m taking him over LaMelo Ball,” said Parsons, per Run It Back on X, formerly Twitter.
Mitchell was acquired by the Thunder on draft night from the New York Knicks and didn’t get much opportunity to show his skills last year due to a combination of factors, but he has broken out on the biggest stage so far in these playoffs, inserted into the starting lineup due to Jalen Williams’ hamstring injury and delivering two huge performances once the series shifted to Los Angeles.
Mitchell is also on the most team-friendly contract in the NBA due to his second round pick status, meaning the Thunder have an elite two-way guard on a bargain salary for multiple years to come. At this point, it’s likely that if Mitchell were on several other teams around the NBA, he’d get starting consideration, although it’s unclear whether the Charlotte Hornets, who seem to be pretty happy with Ball’s performance this past year, would be one of them.

For now, Mitchell and the Thunder will have some time to rest and recover before the Western Conference Finals, which will get underway next week against either the San Antonio Spurs or the Minnesota Timberwolves.
